Skeletal remains found near Malaga in 2020 identified

Eddy County Sheriff's Office is seeking information in the death of Carlsbad woman in 2020. Remains of Brandi Fernandez were found south of Malaga.

Human remains found south of Malaga in 2020 were identified as 43-year-old Brandi Fernandez, according to an autopsy report.

Fernandez’s skeletal remains were found in April of last year by hikers inside an arroyo in a rural area of Eddy County, read the autopsy report written by the Office of the Medical Investigator at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque.

The autopsy determined Fernandez died from a gunshot wound to the head. Her death was reported the result of a homicide.

Her death was investigated by the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division, read a news release from Eddy County CrimeStoppers.
