While wet equipment delayed the musical performances scheduled for July 3, the Carlsbad “Old Fashioned Patriotic Fourth of July” celebrations taking place through July 4 drew hundreds to downtown Carlsbad and the Pecos River.
Entertainment picked up again at the beach bandshell July 4 amid a boat parade, and later the fireworks show which lit up the Pecos River after sundown.
“It wound up being a fantastic weekend, from start to finish, minus the bad weather we had at the beach on Saturday night,” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway.
“We had tens of thousands of people at the beach on Sunday enjoying what many are calling the best fireworks show ever, as well as some outstanding music. It was a celebration of both our Independence and of getting past COVID-19. Thank you to the many, many city and county workers, other organizations and volunteers, who worked so hard over this past week to make it all possible.”
Director of Carlsbad MainStreet Ashly Key said the weekend events and attendance exceeded her expectations.
“The amount of participants that came out to show their American Pride in the parade showcased the love Carlsbad has for our country. The thousands of community members and visitors that lined our Downtown was such a wonderful sight,” Key said.
“This years 4th of July weekend set the bar high for years to come.”
Key thanked the Mayor and planning committees who helped organize the events.
“It was a beautiful sight to see our community together again,” she said.
