The New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) reported Eddy County’s first COVID-19 death since Feb. 22 Tuesday, the 117th overall.
In a news release, DOH said a woman in her 90s died Tuesday. She was a resident of Good Life Senior Living in Carlsbad.
DOH identified at least one positive case in residents and/or staff in the past 28 days at Good Life Senior Living, the news release read.
Most of Eddy County’s COVID-19 deaths involved senior citizens, per DOH data. The demographic breakdown indicated most COVID-19 cases involve the county’s younger population.
In the 20 to 29 group there were 1,096 cases. The figures rose to 1,138 in the 30 to 39 age category, according to DOH data.
As Eddy County’s population ages, the numbers go down. In the 60 to 69 demographic the number of cases was 680 and the number of cases dropped to 76 for those 90 and older, read DOH figures.
DOH said there were 11 deaths across New Mexico on Tuesday and the total deaths stood at 3,740 as of Tuesday afternoon.
Seven new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Eddy County Tuesday. Total tests as of Tuesday afternoon was 58,756 with 6,471 total cases and 5,019 recoveries, DOH cited.
DOH said 247 new cases were reported statewide Tuesday marking the overall total to 185,542.
As of Tuesday, there were 199 individuals hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19. This number may include individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 out of state but are currently hospitalized in New Mexico. This number does not include New Mexicans who tested positive for COVID-19 and may have been transferred to a hospital out of state, DOH said in the news release.
Also, as of Tuesday, there were 148,641 COVID-19 cases designated as having recovered by the DOH.
