The drop in prices is especially raising eyebrows after the July 4th holiday, during which demand for gasoline increased significantly.
“Typically, more people buying gas would lead to higher pump prices,” AAA spokesman Andrew Gross said Tuesday. “But the price of oil, the main ingredient in gasoline, has fallen to around $100 a barrel. Less expensive oil usually means cheaper gas.”

Gas industry experts say falling oil prices could cause fuel prices to fall, according to AAA.
Inflation hit a new peak in June with US consumer prices jumping 9.1 percent year over year, according to data released Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Much of that increase was fueled by inflated gas prices as Californians and people across the country experienced record high prices.
On Wednesday, President Joe Biden commented on the June inflation report, arguing that the inflation reading was “out of date” as gasoline prices fell. He also said that tackling inflation is his top priority.
“Today’s data does not reflect the full effect of the nearly 30-day slide in gas prices that has reduced the price at the pump by about 40 cents since mid-June,” he said. “Those savings provide important breathing room for American families. And other commodities like wheat have fallen sharply since this report.”
