ENCINITAS, California – Delegates to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Encinitas, authorities said.

The incident happened Sunday around 10:52 a.m. when officers were dispatched to Leucadia Boulevard grade crossing for reports of pedestrian strikes. Upon arrival, the deputies found the victim and announced that the victim was dead.

The incident is still under investigation by officials and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the method of death.
