Carlsbad's cheerleaders warm up before the 2019 football game against Goddard.

It’s been almost an entire year since a non-virtual athletic event took place in the state of New Mexico at the conclusion of the 2020 high school basketball tournament. On Feb. 27 cross country meets began and this week volleyball, football and soccer all start.

I’ve been waiting for this week to come and am excited to once again bring you all the local sports coverage in Eddy County possible. I know the last year has been difficult for everyone and I hope this will help with a return to normalcy.

This shortened season will require a different approach than other years. Most of the games these teams have will take place this month with the postseason games in early April. With 19 Carlsbad contests taking place at home (six boys soccer, six volleyball, four girls soccer and two football games) the away game coverage will be limited.
