Pedestrians fatally hit by trains in Encinitas, Sorrento Valley

ENCINITAS, CA – Two pedestrians were fatally struck by AMTRAK trains in separate incidents over the weekend in San Diego County.

The first fatal collision occurred at 1:05 a.m. Sunday at Sorrento Valley train station on 11170 Sorrento Valley Road in San Diego, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Sheriff Sgt. Jason King said.

The second fatal collision occurred at 10:52 a.m. Sunday at the Leucadia Boulevard Grad intersection in Encinitas. The pedestrian was also pronounced dead at the scene, King said.

The names, age and gender of the victims were not released.

Deputies investigated the two incidents. Anyone with information about the deaths was asked to call the sheriff’s non-emergency line at 858-565-5200.
