National Beer Day 2022: where to grab a pint at Encinitas

 Avatar

ENCINITAS, CA – Thursdays are always “thirsty,” but this Thursday is National Beer Day. The unofficial holiday is celebrated every April 7 to commemorate the signing of the Cullen-Harrison Act of 1933, which eased restrictions from the ban period and allowed the production of beer with up to 3.2% alcohol.

Nine months later, on December 5, Congress passed the 21st Amendment to the Constitution, which repealed the Prohibition in its entirety.

In anticipation of the signing of the law, people across the country gathered in front of the breweries. The next day, April 7, 1.5 million barrels of beer were consumed. At the signing of the legislation, President Franklin D. Roosevelt famously said, “I think this would be the right time for a beer.”
