Man killed in hit-and-run in Encinitas: Police

ENCINITAS, Calif. — Authorities are asking for the public’s help after a pedestrian was killed by a getaway driver in Encinitas, police said.

Emergency personnel responded around 12:30 p.m. Sunday to the scene at Coastal Route 101 on Encinitas Boulevard, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

A vehicle traveling west on Encinitas Boulevard as it approached the freeway struck a man walking north on the boulevard, police said, adding the driver continued west on West B Street , fleeing the area. The pedestrian was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced dead, police said.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark sedan or minivan with damage to the front driver’s side, possibly a Chrysler or Dodge, police said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-966-3500 or 858-565-5200.
