ENCINITAS, CA — US News & World Report’s 2022-23 Best Nursing Home rankings released Tuesday may help San Diego County residents and their families address issues such as weekend staffing, infections that can cause hospitalization and other problems before deciding on a facility.

Among the county’s 37 nursing homes, five long-term care facilities and six short-term care facilities were rated as “high performing,” including the Encinitas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Encinitas.

The ratings also show the nursing homes that fell short. Seven nursing homes in the county received “below average” ratings, with just a 1 or 2 on a 5-point scale. Most, however, were “average” with scores of 3 or 4.
