A Carlsbad man received probation for allegedly shoplifting and receiving stolen power generators in 2020, according to Fifth Judicial District Court records.
Fifth Judicial District Judge Jane Shuler-Gray pronounced Ruben Gonzalez, 25, guilty on Feb. 3 and placed him on five years’ probation on four counts of shoplifting and four counts of receiving stolen property, court records read.
Gray suspended a six year prison sentence for Gonzalez and gave him 135 days for pre-sentence confinement credit, per court records.

Carlsbad police accused Gonzalez in February 2020 of stealing four power generators from four Carlsbad home improvement stores, read a criminal complaint filed by police.
Value of the stolen generators was estimated at over $500 a piece, the criminal complaint stated.
Gonzalez was also charged by Carlsbad police with receiving four stolen generators valued at over $500 a piece, the criminal complaint stated.

Gonzalez’s sentences for shoplifting and receiving stolen property run concurrently with another 2020 conviction for shoplifting over $500 worth food and shoplifting over $250 worth cigarettes and striking an employee at the Pilot Travel Center at 3202 South Canal Street, court records noted.
Gray ordered Gonzalez to undergo drug and alcohol screening and in-patient rehabilitation, according to court records.
