Access to Stonesteps Beach Closed Due to Structural Issues

ENCINITAS, CA – Beach Access to popular Encinitas Beach has been closed by the city citing “safety issues.”

Stonestep Beach, a local off-the-beaten-path beach, was closed after the city’s structural engineer “deemed the main support beam of the upper deck and lower stairs” to be “structurally unsafe,” the city said in a press release.

Best known for its large concrete and stone steps that descend a steep, brittle bluff to the narrow beach below, the Stonesteps steps will remain closed until assessment and repair is complete, the city said.

“Residents and visitors who typically access the beach by stairs are prohibited from using them until access is re-granted by the City of Encinitas,” the city said. “Steam-goers are encouraged to use Beacons or Moonlight Beach until the steps reopen.”

The city has not received any information regarding the reopening of Stonesteps.
