ENCINITAS, CA – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck Monday in Encinitas, authorities said.

The man was crossing the street in the 1300 block of Encinitas Boulevard when he was struck by the vehicle shortly before 6 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

The 79-year-old man, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene, said sheriff’s Sgt. Rob Siegfried said. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision, Siegfried said. The accident was under investigation.
