ENCINITAS, CA – With the storm’s cold weather, swells moved along the coast of Carlsbad, Encinitas and San Diego County, however beachgoers were advised to stay off all beaches of the ocean and bays due to the strong flow of bacteria, according to the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality.
Swimming and surfing were not advised for 72 hours after the rain event, with beach advisories in place for the entire San Diego coast.
“Water contact such as swimming, surfing and diving should be avoided during rain for 72 hours after a rain event,” DEHQ said. Rainwater from storm drains, streams, rivers and ponds can cause disease, according to a department spokesman.
