A driver hit and killed a 46-year-old Solana Beach man late Sunday evening while the victim was walking on Interstate 5 in Encinitas, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 11:50 p.m. on North I-5 approaching Santa Fe Drive, California Highway Patrol spokesman Hunter Gerber said in a press release.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was walking in the second lane on the left when he was hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Gerber said. He died on the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, a 50-year-old man from Los Angeles County, was on the scene and was not injured in the crash, Gerber said. The investigator did not believe he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Investigators closed part of the road until about 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Anyone with information about the crash, or anyone who could testify, was asked to call the Oceanside Patrol Highway area office at (760) 643-3400.
