Maida Josephine Mack, longtime resident of Sylvan Lake and Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, died June 11, 2022 in Encinitas, California. Maida was second in her graduating class from Pontiac High School. She went on to earn her B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University and her Masters in Special Education from Wayne State University. Maida was a career educator in Michigan public schools and lifelong advocate for children with disabilities. She loved music and flowers. At Grosse Pointe Park, she was a volunteer at the hospice and a member of the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church. Maida predeceased her husband, Douglas Lee Derhammer (1930 -1991) and is survived by her daughters, Amy Allmaras (Jeff) of Encinitas, CA, Anne English, (Woodrow) of Arlington, Virginia, and Julia Norlander ( Daniel) of Carlsbad, California; eight grandchildren; Jeffry, Adam, Nick and Brock Allmaras; Chelsea, Woodrow and Molly English; and Elizabeth Norlander; and his great-grandsons Carter, Wilder, Sawyer and William.
