Carlsbad Public Library has some new projects in the works, and your input is needed.
Makerspace design: Currently, there is a quick 5-question survey available at the library to get community feedback for new makerspace offerings. According to library director Sarah Jones, “A makerspace is a collaborative workshop that supplies equipment and technology, such as 3D printers, soldering tools, industrial sewing machines, etc., for creative projects.”
If you want to learn a skill, try a new kind of DIY project, or need access to a piece of equipment that’s out of your price range, please take this opportunity to share your ideas and interests with the library by filling out the survey. Our makerspace will be the most effective for the largest number of community members if we get a lot of input from residents. The library is in the stage of gathering information for this project, and your ideas are welcome!
Digital time capsule: Another project at the library is a digital time capsule. We want to know: how did you spend the time during the pandemic over the last year? Did you remain working? Did you work from home? Did you teach your children at home? Did you decorate your house extra big for the holidays to cheer up your neighborhood? Did you find some creative ways to relieve the stress of this unusual year? If you’d like to share anything you did or made, please do so by uploading your files to our digital time capsule here: https://carlsbadnm.librariesshare.com/carlsbadtimecapsule/. This will be a permanent archive of our community’s response to the pandemic. Feel free to share photographs of your artwork or other projects, music files, poetry or other writings, and let future generations know what went on here in Carlsbad in 2020. The more people who participate, the more interesting it will be!
Video promotion: Do you and your friends or family members enjoy video projects? You are welcome to join us in creating a promotional video for Carlsbad Public Library. We want to showcase the materials and services we offer the community, and need some friendly faces to help us do that! All ages and abilities are welcome. If you would like to participate, please call 885-6776 or stop by and let us know, and we’ll share additional details with you.
Scholastic Book Fair: It’s about a month away, but we don’t want you to miss Carlsbad Public Library’s in-person book fair for students. The book fair dates are June 1 through June 12 during regular library hours. This will be a fun opportunity for kids to reconnect with their favorite book characters, series, novels, comics, and early readers. It will also serve as the kick off for the library’s 2021 summer reading program for all ages, “Tails and Tales.” (The book sale will be held in accordance with whatever Covid-19 guidelines are in place at that time.)
As you can see, there is a lot going on at the library and you’re invited to be a part of it. The library opens to the public for in-person visits Monday through Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Our digital services and materials are available on demand any time you need them with your free library account.
