The body of a person believed to have been swept away by flood waters at the intersection of Boyd Drive and Monterrey Street on Tuesday was recovered.
Carlsbad Fire Chief Richard Lopez said New Mexico State Police divers were able to undertake the recovery as flood waters receded around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The name of the deceased was not released to the media.
Lopez said flood waters in the area were still moving swiftly, but rescuers wanted to complete the task.

Emergency officials were notified around 10 p.m. Tuesday that a vehicle drove around a barricade and was swept away by heavy flooding.
State Police and Carlsbad Fire Department waited most of Wednesday for flood waters to recede and calm before making an recovery attempt.
A drone was launched around 4 p.m. Wednesday and flew for nearly an hour to survey the area and assist in the recovery plan.
Officials said the vehicle driven by the deceased was also recovered.
New Mexico State Police are handling the investigation.
