DOH reports 59 new COVID-19 cases in Eddy County during weekend

New COVID-19 cases in Eddy County rose over the weekend from Thursday and Friday, according to the New Mexico Department of Health (DOH).

DOH cited 59 new positive tests in Eddy County from Saturday to Monday. Eddy County was second in the State behind Bernalillo County with 232 new cases.

Eddy County had 13 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and 18 Friday, read a DOH press release.

The Carlsbad 88220 zip code ranked first in DOH’s top-10 zip codes with 44 new weekend cases. An Albuquerque area zip code was second with 38, per DOH data.

The 88220 zip code reported 4,312 total COVID-19 cases and the Artesia 88210 had 2,273 total cases, read DOH data.

As of Tuesday morning, Eddy County had 7,178 total cases and 86,306 total tests. More than 6,800 County residents recovered from COVID-19, DOH indicated.

“The high, growing COVID-19 numbers for Eddy County remain a significant concern, and they are being matched by a high number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations as well,” said Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway. 

DOH noted 632 new cases around New Mexico over the weekend with 209,118 total.

Three deaths were recorded over the weekend by DOH across New Mexico. None from Eddy County, 143 people died since last year from COVID-19 in the County.
